Strictly shock as BBC Breakfasts Dan Walker AND Corries Katie McGlynn are announced for 2021 series

STRICTLY Come Dancing have announced Coronation Street’s Katie McGlynn and BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker as this year’s seventh and eighth contestants.

The 28-year-old actress was confirmed to be taking part live on the morning show today, with host Louise Minchin left stunned when her co-star was also revealed just moments later.

Dan appeared via video link to share his secret, with Louise open-mouthed by the revelation having had no idea a second announcement was happening, exclaiming: “There’s nothing in the running order!”

She was stunned as she watched a video teasing the new contestant, and when Dan appeared on screen she shrieked: “I don’t believe it â€" Mr. Walker! Oh wow, congratulations!”

Louise went on: “What I’m really annoyed about is nobody’s told me anything, Dan â€" I should have guessed, I can’t believe it!”

Dan was incredibly apologetic â€" insisting he’d only told “a small circle”, and his kids only found out at the weekend.

He added: “I’m very sorry, I was told it’d make good telly if we didn’t tell you.”

Not fancying his odds, Dan went on: “I’ll be honest with you, I’m not making any room on any shelves in my house for the Glitterball.”

Meanwhile, Katie shared her excitement for the show live in the studio, sharing: “I’ve been so nervous, but I’m really excited for today because I’ve had to keep it a secret for so long â€" I’m just relieved everyone knows now.”

She went on to reveal she’d been keeping the secret since the end of February and described herself as “Bambi on ice” as she admitted: “I’m not a dancer, by the way!”

The soap star first shot to fame in BBC drama Waterloo Road, which she appeared in until 2013 â€" when she joined Corrie as Sinead Tinker.

She had a tragic end to the ITV soap, with her character being killed off after a devastating cancer storyline in 2019.

Strictly bosses started to reveal the line-up for the upcoming series of the show last week, with Katie up against some great talent.

Bake Off star John Whaite will make show history by partnering up with a man, while other celebs taking to the dance floor include Robert Webb, McFly’s Tom Fletcher and AJ Odudu.

CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson was also announced on Friday, and Dragon’s Den’s Sara Davies yesterday morning.

The Sun told last month that ex-rugby ace Ugo Monye, 38, was also among those signed up.

The Sun understands that the BBC will continue to reveal the line-up for the 2021 series in the coming days and weeks, with further names expected imminently.

The news comes after Strictly judge Shirley Ballas teased details about this year’s line-up for the popular BBC One series.

Ballroom expert and choreographer Shirley, 60, returns to the judging panel alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Strictly professional dancer-turned-judge Anton Du Beke.

She told ITV’s Loose Women that “of all panels, you have never seen such celebrities as you are going to see on this particular show”.
